Set within the coastal dunes of Sorrento, this alterations and additions project at 16 Vision Avenue responds to both site constraint and opportunity. The design was initiated by the replacement of a corroding elevated deck, evolving into a broader landscape transformation incorporating a new deck and pool positioned to capture expansive eastern views toward the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron.
The steeply sloping site, previously constrained by an overgrown garden and an asphalt driveway that limited access to nearly half the property, has been carefully restructured to improve movement and usability. A series of winding garden paths trace the natural contours of the dune, connecting key areas through gentle gradients, integrated steps, and defined circulation routes. Along these paths, moments of respite and reflection are carefully embedded—small pauses within the journey that offer places to rest, gather, and reorient—softening the physical demands of moving through the landscape while heightening the sensory experience of the site.
New lawn spaces provide areas for recreation, while reconfigured car parking and a considered naturestrip verge contribute to both function and streetscape presence.
The planting design embraces a lush, coastal-native character, combining textural fern understorey with a predominantly indigenous palette suited to the local environment. This approach reinforces the site’s ecological context while softening built elements, resulting in a resilient and immersive landscape that balances access, outlook, and coastal identity.
