Located on a 1300sqm suburban coastal allotment in Blairgowrie, this project resolves a complex sloping site through a series of terraced landscape elements anchored by a retained and refurbished tennis court. The court sits at the upper portion of the site and is integrated with the dwelling via broad hardwood timber stairs and a sequence of sleeper retaining walls, which manage level transitions and define circulation routes.
A central lawn terrace provides a direct interface between the house and court, creating usable open space while maintaining clear sightlines across the site. To the north-west of the dwelling, a defined orchard and productive garden zone incorporates citrus planting, raised beds and composting areas, positioned for accessibility from the lower level.
At the eastern boundary, a circular firepit area is set within a graded, retained landscape, edged by dense indigenous planting and connected via compacted gravel paths. This zone is designed as a sheltered gathering space, separated from the court through planting and level change.
The planting strategy reinforces the coastal context, combining structured screening with lower understorey species, while material selections—including exposed aggregate concrete, timber sleepers and gravel—respond to durability and constructability constraints.
