Pascoe Vale Gardens is a thoughtfully designed retirement care development that balances independence, community, and connection to landscape. Memla Landscape Architects crafted a contemporary garden setting that supports residents’ wellbeing through accessible, sensory-rich outdoor spaces. The design responds to the site’s suburban context, integrating generous planting, shaded walkways, and communal courtyards that encourage movement, social interaction, and quiet reflection.
A network of looped paths ensures intuitive wayfinding and safe circulation, while varied garden rooms provide opportunities for both active and passive use. Edible planting, seasonal colour, and textured materials create a familiar and engaging environment that evolves throughout the year. Seating nodes and sheltered gathering spaces are carefully positioned to foster connection between residents, visitors, and staff.
The landscape prioritises universal design principles, ensuring all areas are easily navigable for people with varying mobility levels. Passive surveillance and clear sightlines enhance safety without compromising the sense of openness. Water-sensitive design strategies and resilient plant selections contribute to long-term sustainability and reduced maintenance.
Pascoe Vale Gardens demonstrates Memla’s commitment to creating meaningful, human-centred landscapes that enrich everyday life, supporting dignity, independence, and a strong sense of belonging for residents.
